Recruiting for Trustees

Why become involved? You care about education and believe every child is entitled to have an outstanding education and the best possible start in life.  As a Trustee you want to ensure local schools retain their unique character while supporting local communities. You do not necessarily need to have any experience in the education sector, although if you have been involved in school governance that will prove useful.

What is a Trustee:

As a Trustee, you will:

  • Establish the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the Trust (Trustees)
  • Hold the executive leaders (Trustee) and Principals to account for the educational performance of the organisation and the performance management of staff.
  • Oversee the financial performance of the organisation making sure money is well spent.
  • Ensuring the voices of stakeholders (pupils, parents, staff, local community) are heard.

Trustees meet approximately six times a year as a board; they are also required to sit on one or more committees of the board which meet about three times a year.  These meetings generally take place in term time both face to face and via Teams.

Trustees are supported by the Trust Governance Professional and can participate in further training opportunities and support for the role is provided through the CST (cstuk.org.uk) and external providers.   It is important that Trustees follow  The Seven Principles of Public Life – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) and are aware of the principles of ethical leadership.
